Description
Deciduous tree found in group of seedlings at Starhill Forest Arboretum. Leaf outline is intermediate between those of parent species. Selected for good growth form and bright fall color. Name derived from fiery fall color of Q. coccinea and common name of Q. nigra parent; water oak.
Natural Distribution
Found as chance F1 seedling by Guy Sternberg. Collected off KY champion Q. nigra, pollinated by nearby Q. coccinea.
