Subgenus Quercus, section Quercus (the white oaks)
It is a small-leaved evergreen oak primarily of the barranca/canyon (from which it derives its epithet) country on the west slope of the Sierra Madre Occidental.
Described from southwestern Chihuahua and southeastern Sonora in northwestern Mexico.
